List of Ministries


Following is a list of the areas of ministry here at St. Peter Lutheran Church and School. If you are interested in becoming involved in one or more of these ministries, please contact the person/board responsible.

Altar Guild Prepare, clean, and store communion ware; clean and maintain elders’ and acolytes’ robes; clean and maintain pastors’ vestments change and store chancel paraments. Church Office
Baptism Ministry Providing instruction in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism to prepare parents for the baptism of their infants/children. DCE – Children’s Ministry
Bulletins & Mailings Assemble service folders and announcements for weekend services. Assemble and prepare newsletters and other mass mailings. Church Office
Caring Hearts Food Ministry Providing meals for families of hospitalized members, baking for funeral luncheons, etc. Senior Pastor
Caring Visitors Visiting shut-in and hospitalized members. Board of Elders
Cemetery Assist church families with selection of burial sites. Cemetery Committee
Church Arts Decorate the chancel, sanctuary, and/or narthex for special seasonal celebrations (Christmas and Easter). Senior Pastor
Confirmation Events Monthly events geared towards providing a positive environment for Junior Youth to come together and have fun. Supervision of youth is needed along with help in planning each event and seeing it through. DCE – Youth Ministry
Conversational English Help immigrant residents in the local area learn, practice, and get comfortable with the English language. ESL Ministry
Family Ministry Evening adult workshops and seminars discussing a variety of health and spiritual topics and a family activities night. Minister of Discipleship
FLASH Third Graders get together to meet each other and find new friends in a service project or fellowship event. DCE – Children’s Ministry
Food Pantry Providing help with groceries and other necessities for families experiencing financial difficulties due to job loss, medical expenses, etc. Also provides all the makings for holiday meals at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Church Office
Junior High Bible Study Mentor Regularly attend Junior Youth Bible Study on Sunday morning in order to build relationships with the youth and to support them. DCE – Youth Ministry
Music Ministry Administration Assist with filing, photocopying, data entry, research and miscellaneous office tasks. Minister of Music
Music Ministry Maintenance Laundering hand bell gloves, choir robes, and costumes; polishing hand bells and cleaning rehearsal room; and repairing rhythm instruments, music stands, music books, etc. Minister of Music
Musicians & Vocalists Opportunities abound for organists, pianists, instrumentalists, and vocalists to lead worship and accompany choirs. Or make a joyful noise to the Lord in one of many choral groups.

Minister of Music
OASIS Senior High fellowship/Bible study time on Sunday evenings. Responsibilities include encouraging youth to attend and participate, setting a Christ-like example for the kids, and cultivating Christ-centered relationships in and among the youth. DCE – Youth Ministry
Offering Counters Count and prepare weekend offerings for deposit. Church Office
Office Volunteers Assist office staff and pastors with record keeping, filing, cleaning, organizing, etc. Church Office
Outreach Commission Staffs “Visitor Central” during weekend services and contacts prospective members to invite them to CLASS 101, Discovering Church Membership. Sponsors outreach events. Senior Pastor
Pre-Marriage Counseling Providing instruction and counseling for couples about to be married. Rev. Dr. Dean Pittelko
Parent-Teacher League (PTL) Provide resources for the St. Peter Lutheran School through various fundraising activities, such as Septemberfest parking and Market Day sales. School Principal
ROCK (Right On Christian Kids) – A youth group for 4th and 5th Graders that meet once a month for a fellowship activity. DCE – Children’s Ministry
School Children from preschool to eighth grade are educated by Christian teachers who are certified by the State of Illinois. The school is an arm of the church assisting parents in the training of children growing in the light of the Lord. School Principal
Senior High Bible Study Mentor Regularly attend Sr. Youth bible study on Sunday morning in order to build relationships with the youth and to support them. DCE – Youth Ministry
Senior High Youth Fellowship Monthly events for fellowship among Senior High Youth. Help is needed in planning these events as well as at the events themselves. DCE – Youth Ministry
ShareGroups Help get people connected to Christ, to the church, and to each other in small groups that meet in homes. Minister of Discipleship
Single Adult Bible Study Connecting single Christians with each other and with God. Minister of Discipleship
Sunday School Sunday School for birth through 5th grade meets every Sunday during the education hour for fellowship, crafts, and fun Bible story activities. DCE – Children’s Ministry
Tech Ministry Provide audio/visual support for worship services and special events by controlling the soundboard and/or the projection system. Training is provided. Minimal prior knowledge is needed. Technology Coordinator
Telecare Calling to check on new members’ needs, answer questions, follow up on people returning home from the hospital, new parents, etc. Board of Elders
Vacation Bible School A fun week in the summer where children 3 years old through 5th grade have an exciting time learning about God’s love for them through crafts, games, Bible stories, and songs. DCE – Children’s Ministry
“World-Wide Maintenance” Performs routine maintenance and repairs for the many facilities and equipment on our property. Property Ministry
Young at Heart A Christ-centered fellowship for older adults, this group provides inspiration, humor, and encouragement to the senior members of our congregation and the community. They meet monthly for special outings and events. Pastoral Assistant
